Libraries

Libraries across campuses are meant to inspire learning, advance knowledge, and build communities for their students and faculty. Creating spaces that help facilitate these activities is just part of the solution when it comes to providing the top-level service.

Creating spaces for collaboration or group work, quiet, study zones or flexible spaces for gatherings or meetings after hours — one often overlooked place is a space to safely keep personal belongings.

Providing a temporary personal storage space for students, faculty or visitors may be the amenity that is missing from your library. It might be assumed that students are just used to lugging around their backpacks across campus, or comfortable in asking someone to watch their ‘stuff’ while running a quick errand or restroom break.

Take your top-level service to the next level with smart lockers that are integrated into your university ID access management system — physical card or mobile credential.

Clean Design Metra Modo Lockers

personal storage

libraries

Our smart, touchless library lockers can help aid your students and faculty by providing a piece of mind to temporarily store their belongings while stepping a way for a restroom break, a quick breather or walk to clear their head, an errand, or just perusing the stacks looking for the books they need for their research paper.

Lockers can be used to store the belongings that are not needed at hand while spending the day at the library, like a bike helmet, jacket, umbrella or any other item.

Not just any old locker

Smart lockers enhance the level of service you can provide to your customers. These library smart lockers:

  • Can be integrated into your university IDs whether it’s the physical plastic ID or the mobile credential found in the phone
  • Can be a free amenity that you offer your students and faculty OR on-the-fly change the lockers to be a paid rental usage for an event you are hosting
  • Can be configured to be automatically disabled after use so that they are properly cleaned before someone uses the locker once again — once cleaned the locker automatically becomes accessible again for anyone to use
  • Can be part of a locker bank where lockers are also used for the exchange of goods, such as library books, A/V equipment, or other rental items

Changing to Rent a Locker

There may be occasions when your library is hosting seminars, group meetings, or other outside events that you may like to charge for the usage of the lockers. Depending on the event the lockers could be used in the following ways:

libraries

Borrowing library materials is another common practice for students that is getting the contactless treatment in the wake of COVID-19.

Here’s how it works: A student checks out what they want to borrow through a library’s online portal. A librarian gets the “order,” locates the items, creates a “package” for a student with their library system, and deposits the items in an exchange of goods locker right outside the library.

Students are notified via email or text that the materials are ready and waiting, heads to the lockers, and presents their credentials — student ID card or phone or watch — and the locker pops open. They take out their items, shut the door, and the transaction is complete.
